Congress announces committees for UP 2022 Assembly Polls; prominent party leaders Jitin Prasada and Raj Babbar were excluded from the committees

The Indian National Congress on Sunday evening announced panels in the run-up to the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls and former Union minister Salman Khursheed has been tasked with the responsibility of heading the Manifesto Committee.

The Indian Express reported on Monday. Notably, some leaders who were signatories to a letter asking for the overhaul of the party have been left out of the committees.

Prominent party leaders from Uttar Pradesh, such as former Union minister Jitin Prasada, ex-UP Congress chief Raj Babbar and AICC Jharkhand in-charge RPN Singh, were excluded from the committees.

Those in the membership committee are Anugrah Narayan Singh, Ajay Kapoor, BL Khabri, Mohd Muqeem, former MP Kamal Kishore “Commando” and former Varanasi MLA Ajay Rai.

The media and communication advisory committee has Rashid Alvi, Lalitesh Pati Tripathi, Akhilesh Pratap Singh, Surendra Rajput, Omkar Singh and Virendra Madan. The UPPCC president and the CLP leader will be ex-officio members of all the committees, an official communication from the party said.

“Appropriate people have been picked for appropriate functions. I am sure they will do well. As far as I am concerned, I have left UP,” said Raj Babbar. Meanwhile, Jitin Prasada, who has also been in news for making an outreach to the Brahmin community, did not respond to it.
