The Congress intensified its campaign against the BJP in response to information that a key suspect in the murder of tailor Kanhaiyalal in Udaipur and a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant detained in Jammu and Kashmir had ties to the incumbent government on Saturday.
The Congress is eager to keep the issue alive in order to corner the government and the governing party on the topic of nationalism as the Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on June 18.
On Saturday, the Congress staged 23 press conferences around the nation, accusing the BJP, which is in power, of engaging in a “disgusting game” to undermine the nation under the guise of nationalism. Its spokespeople urged the BJP to reflect on how such individuals were joining its ranks and to offer an explanation.
The opposition party has previously requested that the NIA broaden its inquiry into the homicide in Udaipur to look into the claims that Mohammad Riyaz Attari, one of the key suspects in the murder of Kanhaiyalal, had ties to the BJP.
The effort by the Congress is the result of new thinking within the party that the BJP needs to be firmly opposed on its nationalism platform. The BJP was criticised by the Congress on Saturday for allowing the import and manufacture of polyester and machine-made national flags.
“What is this collaboration between the BJP and terrorists called?…
By holding news conferences in several locations around the nation today, 23 of our leaders and spokespersons exposed the BJP’s linkages to terrorist organisations, according to Jairam Ramesh, the general secretary of the AICC who is in charge of the communication department.
Sources in the party said its MPs will raise the issue in Parliament and seek answers from the government, signalling that the Monsoon Session could be a stormy affair.
The head of the Congress media department, Pawan Khera, said the party had never supported playing the terrorism issue for political gain, but that as “links of terrorists and criminals with the BJP are coming to light one after another, it has become necessary to ask questions and put facts before people,” he was speaking at a press conference in Raipur.
“The BJP is playing a terrible game to hollow out the country under the guise of nationalism,” he stated.
Ajoy Kumar, a party spokeswoman, brought up the terrorist exchange in Kandahar in Mumbai. He claimed that during the 1999 hijacking of the Kandahar, the BJP administration had the dubious distinction of releasing the notorious terrorist Masood Azhar.
“Azhar later founded the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Muhammad, which was accountable for the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which resulted in hundreds of fatalities. Jaish was also responsible for the Pulwama attack in 2019, which claimed the lives of 44 members of the CRPF after 200 kg of heavy explosives, including RDX, managed to get past several security posts. It is still unclear why there hasn’t been a Pulwama investigation, the man claimed.
