CUET Exam 2022: UGC President M Jagadesh Kumar has announced on Monday that the Common Entrance Test for admission to graduate courses in all 45 central universities will be conducted in the first week of July. He said that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET 2022) is a computerized test and will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam pattern of the exam (CUET exam pattern 2022) will be released soon. The registration process for the exam will be started from the first week of April. Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said that admission to undergraduate courses in these universities will now be purely on the basis of CUET scores and there will be no weightage in class 12 board marks.
He said that the universities can make the best use of the board exam scores as the eligibility criteria for the exam. This effectively means that performance in class 12 board exams will no longer be a factor in admission to central universities. This year, seven DU colleges had asked for 100 per cent marks in the first list to admit students to a total of 10 programmes.
Students will be admitted on the basis of merit list prepared by NTA
The government did not favor using the board’s marks for admission because of the “diversity” in the evaluation methods.” After CUET, each university will admit students on the basis of merit lists prepared by the NTA, and no general counselling will not be done. Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Indira Gandhi National Open University, and Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University in UP are among the renowned central universities now covered by CUET.
Asked whether central universities that reserve seats for minorities like AMU and Jamia would also adopt CUET, Kumar clarified that the exam is mandatory for all 45 central universities funded by the UGC. He said that CUET will not affect the quota of seats reserved in such institutions, but they will compulsorily admit all students through common examination. “The only difference is that these students will also have to appear through CUET, just like students are to be admitted to general seats. Reservation policies and ordinances of universities will remain unchanged.” However, AMU and Jamia have not yet clarified their stand on appearing in the entrance exam.
