The Delhi government presented the annual budget 2022-23 few months back. In this budget, a lot of emphasis has been laid on the education system of Delhi. In Delhi’s total budget of Rs 75800 crore, Rs 16278 crore has been allocated for the education sector. The budget of the Delhi government was presented by Deputy Chief Minister (Deputy CM) Manish Sisodia. He made many important announcements for the education sector. After transforming the infrastructure, we aim to transform the learning experience in the education sector, Sisodia said. This year we will focus on initiatives like a school science museum, classroom digitization, Montessori labs in 100 schools and Teachers University.
Manish Sisodia said, Delhi government schools have so far achieved the best results in CBSE board exams despite the COVID-19 pandemic and have achieved 100% pass percentage results (actually 99.84%) considered almost impossible. To set new standards of quality education, we have formed the Delhi School Education Board. At the same time, Specialized Excellence Schools have been opened in Delhi for specialized study of different subjects.
Deputy CM Manish Sisdia said that he proposes to set up a school science museum in Chirag Enclave, New Delhi. This school science museum will play an important role in developing curiosity and interest in science among children. The government has made a provision of Rs 50 crore for the school science museum. Such topics of science which are difficult to understand even through books and videos, they will be able to understand it easily by going to the museum.
The Delhi government has decided to set up a boarding school for homeless children. Children living on roadsides, footpaths, flyovers and under stairs, places of worship, pavilions, railway platforms are deprived of shelter, education and food. In order to provide shelter, food and quality education to these children, the Delhi government announced the formation of a boarding school. This school will be equipped with modern facilities. These schools will provide education and food facilities along with the accommodation of homeless children. A provision of Rs 10 crore has been made for this.
Manish Sisodia said, from this year, we are starting the work of converting all the classrooms of all our schools into digital classrooms in the next 4 years. We have established a modern Montessori Lab at Sarvodaya School, Rajendra Nagar. Montessori Lab plays a very important role in the development of early childhood education. We will set up similar Montessori labs in 100 more schools in the times to come.
Manish Sisodia said, “While taking forward sports in schools, we have started working on sports infrastructure in 100 selected schools as per the need of local children and society. After the formation of the government in 2015, till now 5 new universities have been opened in Delhi by the Kejriwal government. Two new campuses of Ambedkar University were opened at Karampura and Lodhi Road.”
