Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal has resigned from the post. He has sent his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind. Giving this information, sources said that Baijal has resigned due to personal reasons.
Retired bureaucrat Baijal took over as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in December 2016 following the resignation of Najeeb Jung.
Baijal’s name was also in discussion on several occasions due to differences with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Baijal was a 1969 batch IAS officer, he has also served as the Union Home Secretary in the government led by Atal Bihari Bajpai.
On some occasions, the decisions taken by the Aam Aadmi Party government were ‘vetoed’ by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, due to which there was a sharp reaction from the Arvind Kejriwal government. He was also accused of working at the behest.
According to media reports – biggest tussle between the Delhi government and Baijal happened when Kejriwal and his Cabinet of ministers staged a dharna at the L-G office alleging that IAS officers posted with the state government were not cooperating with elected representatives.
