MCD Election Results: Counting of votes for the high stakes Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is under way for 250 wards amid tight security. According to initial official trends, AAP and BJP both are leading in over 100 seats each. AAP’s Pankaj Gupta is leading in Sangam Vihar, AAP’s Salma Khan leads in Zakir Nagar, Congress candidate Mumtaz in Seelampur seat and BJP candidate Usha in Karol Bagh.
The mandate of 73,20,577 voters is sealed in the EVMs under tight vigil at 42 centres across the national capital. Both AAP and the BJP are confident that they will emerge victorious in the polls.

BJP exudes confidence
BJP leader Harish Khurana exuded confidence that the next mayor will be from the Saffron party. We worked for the disposal of garbage & it continued even during Corona. BJP has worked. That’s why we’re confident that the next Mayor will be from BJP. Last time too, surveys gave only 50 seats to BJP but we won 2/3rd majority,” Harish Khurana said.
On the other side Congress is seeking to regain lost turf.
BJP national general secretary BL Santosh, senior party leader and MCD election in-charge Baijayant Panda and Delhi general secretary Siddharthan had reached the party office in the city as counting of votes was underway.

Total 1349 candidates
Both the ruling BJP and AAP have put up 250 candidates each for the elections, while the Congress has 247 aspirants and Bahujan Samaj Party, 132.
On December 4, Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 50.48 per cent in the civic polls. There were 1,349 candidates at 250 wards seeking votes on Sunday as against 2,538 in 2017. In the 2017 civic election, the BJP won 181 of the 270 wards, the AAP had won 48 wards and the Congress 27.
The Delhi MCD results will likely be out by 3pm.
