The Delhi Police on Monday arrested two militants of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) group following a brief exchange of fire in northwest Delhi.
Six pistols and 40 cartridges were also recovered from their possession, news agency ANI reported.
The accused have been identified as Bhupender alias Dilawar Singh and Kulwant Singh, both residents of Ludhiana, the police said, adding that they were also wanted in some cases in Punjab.
Police received a tip-off about the activities of the two men, leading to their arrest.
“Acting on this input, a trap was laid near the underpass on Burari to Majlis Park road. The accused were identified and overpowered by the team members after a brief exchange of fire,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.
The special cell has said that an attack was being planned on a politician. The suspects belonged to Ludhiana and got cartridges and pistols from Uttar Pradesh. One of the suspects was detained by Punjab police but managed to get a bail in January. Further interrogations are on in this matter.
