India has strongly objected to the remarks of the Chinese ambassador regarding the Chinese spy ship in Sri Lanka. The Indian Embassy in Colombo took to Twitter to strongly reprimand China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, saying he violated basic diplomatic etiquette by making such statements. This may be his personal view but reflects a larger national outlook.
“His view of Sri Lanka may be mixed with the behavior of his own country. But India assures them that, we are very different. The purpose of the visit of an alleged scientific research vessel is only for geopolitical issues.” Warning on China’s comments on the ongoing economic crisis and debt in Sri Lanka, the Indian embassy said that Sri Lanka needs help, but under the guise of support, to fulfill the agenda of another country. There is no need for undue pressure or unnecessary disputes.
China’s alleged research vessel Yuan Wang-5 arrived at the Chinese-built port of Hambantota on August 11 to conduct space tracking, satellite control and research tracking in the northwestern part of the Indian Ocean region. But under its guise, he wanted to keep an eye on Indian missiles. India had strongly opposed this.
Chinese Ambassador to Colombo Qi Zhenhong attacked New Delhi without naming it after China’s nefarious plan failed after India’s intervention. In a statement, the Chinese envoy said, “The sanctioning of a foreign vessel at Hambantota or any other port is a decision taken by the Government of Sri Lanka wholly under its sovereignty and by any other country in this regard under national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.”
