The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case, asking him to appear before the investigators on June 13. Even before this, the ED issued summons to Rahul Gandhi on June 2. When Rahul did not appear, again the ED has given a new date of production.
In fact, on June 2, when the ED had called Rahul to appear, he was abroad and his legal team had sought a new date from the ED. Now the ED, while accepting his application, has said that on June 13 at 11 am, he should reach the Enforcement Directorate office in Delhi and record his statement. In this whole matter, it is being said that the loan of 90 crores was given to Associated Journals Limited without interest.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also summoned Congress President Sonia Gandhi to appear on June 2 for questioning in a money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper. Later, when Sonia Gandhi tested Covid positive, her appearance was postponed.
The case was registered recently in connection with the probe into alleged financial irregularities in the party-backed ‘Young Indian’. The newspaper ‘National Herald’ belongs to Young Indian Private Limited. National Herald is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and is owned by Young Indian Private Limited. BJP MP Swamy had accused Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others of conspiracy to commit fraud and embezzlement of funds of Young Indian Pvt Ltd. Swamy had also alleged that Young Indian Pvt Ltd had paid only Rs 50 lakh to acquire rights to recover Rs 90.25 crore, which AJL owed the Congress.
