The Calcutta High Court on Friday announced that parents of school students will pay 50% of the unpaid fees,as many had earlier faced difficulties in payment of fees due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the following lockdown.
Parents are requested to pay the amount within three weeks. The court has also said that school authorities are free to take action against those who did not pay fees within the time limit given by the court.
No certificates for students who do not clear school fees dues
The High Court has strictly said that the board will not issue certificates to those students whose school fees are not submitted.
Unpaid fees rises up to several crores
The Calcutta High Court mentioned in their order that “we are sad and annoyed to know that although the economic situation is much better now than 2020 amd now most people have learnt how to adjust their lives to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, quita a significant number of parents of the students of various schools have take advantage of this order by not paying the school fees at all”.

The order further stated that, “We are told that quite a number of defaulting parents are government servants who have not suffered loss of pay during this pandemic. It is also submitted that a substantial number of parents and guardians can pay the school fees but are deliberately not paying the dues of the teaching institutions.”
The court last year had asked schools to reduce fees and guardians to pay only 60% of school fees.
But many parents allegedly took advantage of the court order and chose not to pay fees at all deliberately, the court observed.
