For first time ever, Rupee slumps below 82 against dollar

Rupee New months begins with a negative start as the decline continues

The value of the Indian currency rupee is continuously falling against the dollar. The rupee on Friday closed 15 paise lower at a record low of 82.32 (provisional) against the dollar amid rising crude oil prices and continued rise in US bond yields.

According to traders, the fall in domestic stock markets and jump in crude oil prices affected investor sentiments. The rupee opened at 82.19 in the interbank foreign exchange market and during trading the rupee went to a low of 82.43. In the end, the rupee closed at 82.32 per dollar with a fall of 15 paise against the previous closing price.

Earlier, the rupee on Thursday fell 55 paise to close at an all-time low of 82.17 per dollar against the US currency.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the strength of the dollar against the world’s six major currencies, fell 0.19 per cent to 112.04.

International oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.82 per cent to $95.19 a barrel after OPEC countries announced cut in oil production.

Apart from this, the BSE Sensex fell 30.81 points, or 0.05 percent, to 58,191.29, while the Nifty fell by 17.15 points to 17,314.65.
