Formula 1: In an effort to handle track restriction violations, the regulatory body of Formula One, the FIA, will be testing artificial intelligence (AI) during the next Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. By using “Computer Vision” technology—which counts the number of pixels that cross the track border using shape analysis—the FIA hopes to differentiate between actual breaches, in which drivers completely cross the white line that defines the track perimeter. The goal of this programme is to reduce the burden and expedite reaction times at the FIA’s remote operations centre (ROC).
AI in Formula 1
It will be simpler for the FIA’s remote operations centre (ROC) to react swiftly when drivers violate the track’s white line with all four wheels thanks to the AI system’s detection of genuine breaches.
Four workers had to sort through almost 1,200 potential infractions at the July Austrian Grand Prix.
What is Computer Vision Technology
In order to measure the number of pixels that cross the track edge, computer vision technology analyses forms. By using it, FIA hopes to reduce the workload for officials and expedite response times.
In order to handle track limit infractions, the organisation intends to test AI technology during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
