Foxconn: Foxconn, the creator of iPhones, wants to start producing electric vehicles in India. The state governments of several states are apparently in discussions with the Taiwanese corporation over this.
An Indian delegation is scheduled to travel to Taiwan soon to meet with Foxconn executives and go through the company’s intentions. However, it is yet unknown if Foxconn would carry out contract production through a joint venture for several brands or just one.
Foxconn EV manufacturing plant
Foxconn intends to establish an electric vehicle production facility in India. While the corporation would prefer to locate its facility in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu may also be an option because the southern state has advantages for automakers. It may take some time for Foxconn to decide on a location since it is currently exploring its options with four states. It is yet unclear whether Foxconn would work as a joint venture with one car manufacturer or whether it will provide contract manufacturing services to various businesses. Apple iPhones are currently produced by Foxconn in Tamil Nadu.
Ather Energy and Ola Electric are partners with Foxconn at the moment. To evaluate options for EV manufacturing with senior executives, the Indian group will soon travel to Taiwan.
Officials from Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh discussed EV manufacturing prospects when top Foxconn executives visited those states last year.
After Young Liu, the chairman of Foxconn, made his first trip to India last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the alignment of Foxconn’s EV production efforts with India’s resolve to achieve net-zero emissions in a tweet.
