French Open 2023: Iga Swiatek, the current top-ranked player in the world, has dominated the competition at the 2023 French Open, securing her place in the final after a commanding victory in straight sets against Beatriz Haddad Maia from Brazil. The semi-final match took place at the renowned Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Iga Swiatek storms to French Open 2023 Finals
In an impressive display, Swiatek secured a spot in her third Roland Garros final by defeating Haddad Maia with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7). The 22-year-old is determined to defend her French Open title, as she emerged victorious in both 2020 and last year. In the previous year, Swiatek emerged triumphant against Gauff in the final of the French Open, securing her second Grand Slam victory. Following that success, she went on to claim the championship at the 2022 US Open. Now, her sights are set on capturing her fourth Grand Slam title as she prepares to face Muchova on Saturday.
Speaking on her victory, Swiatek expressed her intention to maintain her current game strategy for the final. She emphasized that she will maintain her focus and aims to provide an entertaining spectacle for the spectators on Saturday. In the upcoming tournament final on June 10, the Polish player will face Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic.
Following her victory, She said “There is no sense to change anything. If you are in the final it means your whole routine was working. Obviously it’s a little bit different but our goal is to play this match as any other. I’m going to keep the same focus and do what I want on court and hope we’re going to play a nice match and entertain you guys.”

In the earlier stages of the tournament, Swiatek showcased her dominance by defeating Cristina Bucsa with a score of 6-4, 6-0 in the first round. She continued her strong performance in round two, triumphing over Claire Liu from the USA with the same scoreline. Advancing to the next round, the Polish player delivered a resounding 6-0, 6-0 victory against China’s Wang Xinyu. In the round of 16, Swiatek received a walkover when Lesia Tsurenko from Ukraine was unable to compete. Continuing her impressive run, she faced and defeated the sixth seed and last year’s runner-up, Coco Gauff, with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals. This set the stage for her semi-final clash against Haddad Maia.
