Medical conditions that can cause hair loss

Nutritional deficiencies

Hair loss is common due to deficiency of many essential vitamins and minerals including iron, zinc, niacin, fatty acids, selenium, vitamins D, A and E, folic acid, biotin, amino acids, proteins and antioxidants.

Fungal infections

Human trichomycosis causes severe hair loss. Dandruff is the most common problem in fungal infection which is found in every person. It causes itching and oily scalp along with hair fall. Prescription shampoo or antifungal medicines can be used to avoid fungal infection.

Autoimmune disorders

Hair loss is also caused by autoimmune disorders. Thyroid hormones control the way our body uses energy. Due to the lack of sufficient thyroid hormone, the function of the body slows down, due to which hair growth also decreases.

Cancer

There is no problem of hairfall due to cancer, although some treatments of this deadly disease, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause hair loss on the body and head. Once the radiation and chemical therapy is over, your hair will regrow.

Diabetes

If you have Type 2 diabetes, then you may have to go through the problem of hairfall. Type 2 diabetes greatly reduces the oxygen and nutrient supply present in the body, due to which hair follicles get damaged. It results in thinning of hair, lack of hair growth, brittle hair etc.
