“My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness”
Today, on 6th July every year Buddhists all over the world celebrate the Dalai Lama’s birthday. Especially important in a region of Tibet, where he was born.
Unlike the past when Ladakh used to hold huge celebration on Dalai Lama’s birthday, in the midst of the Corona situation, his 85th birthday will be celebrated for the first time in McLeodganj without any grand ceremony.
He said from his home in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. “It’s not possible for large numbers of people to hold a big celebration because of the restriction due to the pandemic. And it’s not necessary either”. “However, if you want to celebrate my birthday, I’d like to ask you to recite the Mani mantra (Om Mani Padme Hung), at least a thousand times,”.
Dalai Lama was born in Taktser, Qinghi, Tibet. He fled to India during the Tibetan uprise in 1959, and currently lives as a refugee. He is revered as a “living god”.
After the death of 13th Dalai Lama, he was enthroned when he was 4 ½ years old and renamed Tenzin Gyatso.
“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions”.
Dalai Lama believes and encourages people to be happy, his holiness is concerned to help people understand that if their minds are upset mere physical comfort will not bring them peace, but if their minds are at peace even physical pain will not disturb their calm.
In 1989, he was awarded by the Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent struggle for the Liberation of Tibet.
He has also authored or co-authored more than 110 books like Art of Happiness, The Book of Joy, Beyond Religion and several other books, promoting Peace, spirituality and views to unite Peoples.
“Monday in the evening, every house will celebrate his holiness’ birthday. It will be great celebration”, said Tseten Wangchuk, Chief Representative Officer of Tibetan Settlement in Leh, on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamshala.
