Goodfellows: Ratan Tata has come up with a much-needed change. A step that can change the life of senior citizens in our Country, for good! The industrialist has invested in a plan, to be precise a start-up named as ‘good fellows’ which aims to provide companionship to the elderly. while this start-up has been started as well as founded by 28-year-old Shantanu Naidu who works as a General Manager in Mr Tata’s Office.
About Goodfellows
So the main aim is to provide a loving environment where the senior citizens feel at home! The motive is to give them the company of a ‘Goodfellow’ who gives them the touch of their own grandchild.
Basically the startup appoints young graduates (Goodfellows) who further assist the senior citizens and provide them with much needed companionship.
Where The business model of Goodfellows is free for a month and then, the minimum subscription fee is charged. It further connects about 50 “grandpals,” men and women over 70 with “good fellows” in their twenties. The first month is free with the goal of having the senior citizen experience the service since it’s hard to understand the concept without actually going through it. From the second month onward, a small subscription fee has been decided.
Meanwhile, Over 800 young graduates applied to work at Goodfellows during the first testing phase, and 20 of those candidates were chosen to provide companionship to the elderly in Mumbai (Yes, that’s right) as The subscription-based service is only available in Mumbai currently but will be offered in other cities including Bengaluru soon.

Shantanu Naidu the founder said, “The start-up emphasises that companionship means different things to different people. To some, it may mean watching a movie, narrating stories from the past, going on a walk or having quiet company sitting around doing nothing together, and we are here to accommodate it all. In its beta phase, we discovered how organically the Grandpals bonded with the Goodfellows. Mr Tata’s investment in our venture further is a huge source of encouragement to our dedication to this concept.”
While Ratan Tata also talked about the Startup and said, “The bonds between the two generations created by Goodfellows are very meaningful and are helping to address an important social issue In India. I hope the investment helps the young team at Goodfellows grow.”

What does Goodfellows plan to offer?
The startup plans to offer, travel companions for senior citizens. Provide a buddy with a companion and further help lonely senior citizens find a reason to smile. Goodfellows is basically for the 15 million elderly people in India who live alone, maybe because of the loss of a partner or because families moved away for unavoidable work reasons, giving them a platform to eradicate unwanted loneliness from life.
