The Central Government has approved the ‘Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India’ PM-Shri Schools scheme to improve government schools in the country. Under this scheme, 14,597 schools across the country will be upgraded and developed into model schools.
PM Modi has announced this on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on 5th September.
Under the PM SHRI scheme, the government wants to develop at least one model school at each block level. To monitor this, Vidya Samiksha Kendra will also be started in ‘PM-Shri’ schools on pilot project basis.
18 lakh students will benefit:
The ‘PM-Shri School’ scheme will be implemented in five years 2022 to 2027.
27,360 crore would have been spent on this, in which the Center’s share is Rs 18,128 crore. 18 lakh students will benefit from this scheme. Under this scheme, government schools will be selected in collaboration with the state governments.
Under the PM-Shri scheme, 14,597 schools will be selected as model schools across the country in three phases. PM Shri Schools will be selected through Challenge Mode.
Schools will have to apply themselves on the online portal. The portal will be opened four times a year, once in every quarter for the first two years of the scheme.
What will be the criteria for selection of schools?
60 standards have been set for the selection of schools, which include pucca building, drinking water facility, separate toilets for boys and girls, playground, separate facilities for disabled children. Only those schools which meet these criteria will be selected.
How will PMShri School be?
Emphasis will be given on latest technology, smart classrooms, sports and modern infrastructure in PMShri schools.
Under this scheme, a safe, encouraging educational environment will be developed for the students in the selected government school.
Practical, holistic, integrated, real-life situations based teaching will be provided in these schools. This will also be very important for teachers.
These will have all the facilities like smart class, library, skill laboratory, playground, computer laboratory, science laboratory.
PM Shree schools will be developed as Green Schools, which will include solar panels and LED lights, nurturing gardens with natural farming, waste management, plastic free, water conservation and harvesting, and eco-friendly subjects.
