Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the amount of glucose in the blood becomes high. The body produces glucose, which is the main energy source, but we also get glucose from food. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps glucose to get into cells to be used for energy. If you have diabetes, then the body does not make insulin as per the requirement, due to which the glucose remains in the blood and does not reach the cells. In such a situation, diabetes patients should take care of their diet and what things they have to avoid.
Processed sugar foods
Limiting added sugars Cakes, cookies and pies can raise blood sugar levels. Eating baked goods also increases your sugar level and cholesterol which is not good for diabetes.
Soft drinks or sweetened beverages
Diabetes patients should stay away from sweetened beverages such as cold drinks, sodas or other drinks that do not contain any nutritional elements other than calories. The less it is consumed, the sugar level remains maintained.
Saturated fat foods
Consumption of saturated fats such as ghee, butter and oil increases the cholesterol level, due to which there are chances of heart disease along with diabetes.
Alcohol
If you have diabetes, then alcohol should be avoided because it affects the liver, which can increase the sugar level. Along with this, alcohol can also interfere with the medicines prescribed for diabetes.
Processed or packaged foods
Eating processed or packaged food is strictly prohibited for diabetic patients. Processed foods contain added sugars, refined grains, unhealthy fats, preservatives, and salt which are harmful for sugar patients.
