A little bit of sunlight each day may brighten your day. Do you know why sunlight is so important to your health? Are you aware that sunlight has a positive impact on your health? Learn a lot more about sunlight and how it may help you to improve you health mentally and physically.
Vitamin D from Sunlight
The sun’s UV rays help your body make this nutrient, which is important for your bones, blood cells, and immune system. It also helps you take in and use certain minerals, like calcium and phosphorus. And while most people get enough vitamin D from food, children who don’t can get rickets, which softens and weakens their bones.
Improves your sleep
Research indicates that an hour of natural light in the morning will help you sleep better. Sunshine regulates your circadian rhythm by telling your body when to increase and decrease your melatonin levels. So, the more daylight exposure you can get, the better your body will produce melatonin when it’s time to go to sleep.

Exposure to sunlight Reduces stress
Melatonin also lowers stress reactivity and being outside will help your body naturally regulate melatonin, which can help reduce your stress level. Additionally, because you’re often doing something active when you’re outside (walking, playing, etc.), that extra exercise also helps to lower stress.
Extend life expectancy
There’s some thought that by getting enough sunlight and therefore, adequate levels of vitamin D, you can live longer. A study of 30,000 women in Sweden over 20 years indicated that those who spent more time in the sun lived up to two years longer than those who got less sun.
Lower risk of metabolic syndrome
A 2020 study in mice suggested that the sun’s light can help decrease the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, which includes high blood pressure, excess body fat, and high blood sugar.
