Karnataka: The order of the State High Court has been challenged in the Supreme Court by the State High Court to supply 1,200 MT of oxygen instead of the current 965 MT of oxygen to Karnataka.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Center, referring to the case before the bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah, demanded immediate stay of the High Court order issued on Wednesday.
He said that the Center would sort out the matter with the state. However, the bench said that they do not have the documents related to the case and it is not possible for them to pass the order without looking at the petition. The bench said that they would look at the case file and then order the registry to list the case. The bench also said that the matter should be mentioned before the Chief Justice.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar said that he was shocked at the Centre’s move to the Supreme Court in this matter. The Congress leader claimed that Karnataka’s demand for LMO per day is 1471 metric tonnes, while the Center is getting only 865 metric tonnes of oxygen.
Sivakumar tweeted, “When people in the state are dying of oxygen deficiency, will Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and Bharatiya Janata Party MPs remain mute spectators.”
In the hearing on this matter, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on behalf of the Center told Justice DY Chandrachud that 965 MT of LMO is being supplied to the state at present and the Karnataka High Court order should be stayed with immediate effect. .
