Children in the age group of 15 to 18 years will be able to register for the vaccine on the CoWIN app from January 1. According to news agency ANI, the government said on Monday morning that children can use student ID for this. ANI quoted Dr RS Sharma, head of the CoWIN platform, as saying that there is a provision for students to use their ID cards for registration on CoWIN, as some may not have Aadhaar cards.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that children can be vaccinated against coronavirus from January 3. He had said that this would boost the fight against the virus and help schools across the country return to normalcy.

Along with this, the Prime Minister also announced a ‘Precaution’ (booster) dose for the frontline and health workers. Along with this, a booster dose was also announced for the elderly who are above 60 years of age, who have other problems.
Children in India will be given one of two doses. In this Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin or Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D can be installed. Both of these have been approved for children above 12 years of age.
A third potential vaccine is Serum Institute’s Novavax, which the National Drug Controller has approved to test for children between the ages of seven and 11. The fourth is Biological E Corbevax, which has been approved for advanced trials on children above five years of age. Novavax and Corbevax are not yet approved for use.
