India today recorded a new single-day high of 77,266 coronavirus cases, taking its Covid tally to 33.87 lakh. Total deaths due to the Coronavirus have now risen to 61,529.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have reported the highest number of Coronavirus cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 76.3 percent.
New Delhi ’s trajectory of daily cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on Friday became the highest ever recorded by any country, which means that the outbreak in the country currently is worse than it was at the peak in the United States (US) – the worst-hit nation in the world.

Maharashtra on reporters total 734K Coronavirus cases, a state health official said. The death toll due to the virus reached 23,444 and the state recovered 532K Coronavirus cases.
Jammu and Kashmir on Friday recorded 696 new cases of coronavirus taking the total number of infected people to 35,831 even as seven deaths were reported from the union territory during the last 24 hours, officials said.
“Seven persons infected with coronavirus have died in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours till 5 pm on Friday,” the officials said.
Karnataka on Friday registered 8,960 new cases of coronavirus and 136 related fatalities, taking the total infection count in the state to 3.18 lakh, the health department said.
The day also saw 7,464 patients getting discharged after recovery.
Out of 8,960 fresh cases reported on Friday, 2,721 were from Bengaluru urban alone.
At over 19,000 Covid tests per million, West Bengal remains far from catching up with the national average as well as its neighbours. The state is lagging behind by around 8,000 tests per million from the national average of 27,000.
According to Union health ministry data on 21 August, India has been conducting 580 tests per day per million population, while Bengal remains far behind at 365 tests, and figured in the bottom five states in terms of testing per day.
With 1137 new cases of corona and 11 death, total corona positive in Jharkhand is 35813.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand government has allowed opening of the hospitality services and intra-state bus transport in the state even as it extended the lockdown related restrictions, under which several economic activities would continue to remain on the banned list, till September 30.
