Today is the 144th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The total tally in the country rises to 24,61,521 including 6,61,595 active cases, 17,51,846 discharged/migrated & 48,153 deaths: Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
The five most affected Indian states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (560,126), Tamil Nadu (320,355), Andhra Pradesh (264,142), Karnataka (203,200), and Delhi (1,49,460).
The recovery rate, however, improved to 70.77 per cent Thursday with the total number of patients recuperating from the virus reaching nearly 17 lakh, while the case fatality rate has further declined to 1.96 per cent, the Union health ministry said.
On 11 August, India carried out more than 631,000 tests, according to data from the international comparison site, Our World in Data. However, daily figures released by the Indian government are slightly higher than this, with the latest data showing there were 830,391 tests on 12 August.
