Covid-19 cases in India crossed the 20 lakh mark on Friday after a record 62,538 cases were added in the last 24 hours, even as two-third of the total patients have also recovered. India reported 3,28,903 new Covid cases in the first six days of August, emerging as the world’s biggest Covid-19 hotspot in August. The deaths toll in the country now stands at 41,585.
The United States has reported the highest number of cases, with the country’s case-load nearly touching five million (4,940,939). The US is followed by Brazil (2,962,442 cases) and India.
Five states with the highest test positivity rate – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection – are Maharashtra (19.25%), Telangana (13.85%), Delhi (12.63%), Puducherry (10.25%), and Karnataka (10.01%).
In Karnataka, the COVID-19 case load spiking every day with 6670 new cases recorded yesterday. Total cases till date are 1,64,924. Yesterday 101 covid deaths were reported and the total death toll has risen to 2,998. The mortality rate of the State is 1.81 percent.
The COVID-19 deaths of Jharkhand rose to 151 yesterday after six patients succumbed to the disease, a government bulletin said. Pushing the state’s tally to 16,482. The state now has 8,840 active cases while 7,491 patients have recovered from COVID-19 so far. (Input from PTI)
In the last 24 hours in Bihar, 2445 infected people recovered, while 12 died. So far 400 infected people have died. In the state, 71,520 samples were examined in 24 hours. Eight lakh 70 thousand 852 samples have been investigated.
