In the midst of the growing outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, scientists are constantly appealing to people to take the corona vaccine. Experts say that to prevent the corona wave, it is very important for people to already have immunity against the virus and that is why the corona vaccine is important. Meanwhile, a new research has revealed that the corona vaccine is also very effective in increasing the immunity of patients suffering from blood cancer.
Virologist Prof. of the Medical Center of LMU Munich-University of Freiburgand. Dr. Andrea Kepler-Haffkemeyer and Dr. Oliver T. KepleA team led by Christine Greil has shared a detail after studying the immune response of patients for several months.
This study was done on those patients who had blood cancer and who had got all the three doses of corona vaccine. The results show that corona vaccination protects these patients from serious diseases caused by SARS-CoV2.
Strong T cell response to Covid-19 vaccination
This study was based on patients with two types of blood cancer – B-cell lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Doctor Andrea Keppler-Hafkemeyer said that the results of this study, conducted on all participants in the study, showed that almost all participants had a strong T cell response to the Covid-19 vaccination.
Doctor Christine Grell says, ‘Symptoms of infection were found to be mild to moderately severe in the people participating in the study, because the antibodies produced after vaccination could not be formed due to therapy. This could be a reason.
Antibodies against different variants of SARS-CoV-2
The study shows that patients who can make antibodies can also produce high quality antibodies. The antibodies produced after the second vaccination neutralize different variants of SARS-CoV-2. This capacity is much higher in these patients as compared to vaccinated people.
Covid-19 vaccination can induce antiviral immunity including ‘neutralizing antibodies’ on a very large scale in patients with different types of blood cancers. As a result, multiple vaccine doses can be recommended for patients with B-cell lymphoma or multiple myeloma without interruption.
