Sends requisition letter to Government , asks for 10 lakh Covishield doses, 1 lakh Covaxin doses and 5 lakh Bharat Biotech nasal vaccine
The Center has been asked to supply 10 lakh doses of Covishield, 1 lakh doses of Covaxin, and 5 lakh doses of the nasal vaccine made by Bharat Biotech, according to the most recent requisition letter. Less than 30,000 doses of Covaxin, according to sources, are present in the state.
Private hospital sources claim that at this time, there has been an upsurge in demand for preventative vaccinations.
“The need for booster doses has grown during the past week. It can be caused by the growth in China. People were reluctant to take the booster dose for a very long period, a senior administrative employee at a prestigious private hospital told The Sunday Express.
Six months ago Centre had flagged concerns about low testing and vaccination in nine states
The Center first raised issues with poor testing and immunisation rates in nine states, including Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh, roughly six months ago. The improvement and expedition of Covid-19 vaccination were pressed upon the states.

A total of 5 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the state on Friday, according to the state health department’s bulletin, with no reports of any fatalities. The daily Covid-19 count was nine on Thursday.
West Bengal State administration spring back into action , holds high level review meetings , conducts mock drills to check preparedness of hospitals
Health officials claim that the issue is well under control and that there is no need to fear, but the state apparatus has reactivated and officials are convening high-level review sessions. In order to assess hospitals’ readiness for the care of Covid-positive patients in need of hospitals, the health department recently held a mock drill. Along with the inventory of medicines and the availability of beds, oxygen plants were inspected.
Additionally, officials stated that it served no purpose to instil unwarranted panic in the populace. The state Health Department has already established a five-member expert team that is investigating the situation in Bengal and is keeping close watch at the chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s request.
As per senior health official,s West Bengal has so far reported 21532 Covid deaths and 21,18,617 Covid positive cases.
