Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today inaugurated the capital’s first drive-through vaccination facility at Vegas Mall in Dwarka Sector 14.
Several families were seen reaching the centre in their cars to get their shots.
The vaccination centre has been established in association with Akash Hospital where a team of doctors and medical staff of the hospital will be deployed at the Vegas Mall drive-through facility.
It’s an initiative by the Delhi government and southwest Delhi District Magistrate, a hospital spokesperson said.
Launching the vaccination centre, CM Kejriwal said that several more drive-through vaccine centres will be launched in the next few days. “The problem, however, is the supply of the vaccine. It is expected that the central government will give the vaccine to Delhi as soon as possible. Vaccination centres are being shut down across many states. Delhi needs 80 lakh doses every month,” said Kejriwal.
According to reports, the Akash Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital has procured around 30,000 Covishield doses. According to the officials, these will be used to inoculate people in the 18-44 age group at the centre.
“We will go slow at the start to avoid rush on the road and administer 40 to 50 doses for the initial few days,” DM Naveen Aggarwal said. He also said that later on the number of doses administered per day will be increased gradually to around 300.
Meanwhile, In Noida five more drive-through vaccination sites will start in Noida soon, taking the total number to 10. All the new vaccination centres will be dedicated to the 18-44 age group. Interested vaccine recipients will need to register on the Co-WIN portal.
