The Assam government has further tightened the rules of Covid screening for people coming to the state. On Sunday, Assam government officials said that even those coming to Assam who have received both the doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are not being exempted from getting the test done. The reason for this is that out of all the cases of new infections that have been reported in the state in the recent past, about 5 percent are of those people who have received the full dose of the vaccine. Therefore, Covid testing has been made mandatory for every person entering the state.
On June 25, 2021, the Assam government ordered that passengers coming to Assam by plane and train will be exempted from mandatory testing for COVID-19 who have received their full dose. But, on July 15, the Assam government has withdrawn its old order.
In the latest notification issued by the state’s Health and Family Welfare Department, it has been said, ‘Covid positivity has been observed in some cases even in those people who have received both the doses of the vaccine.’ On this basis the old exemption has been withdrawn. Dr Laxman S, director of the Assam-based National Health Mission, told PTI, ‘Some people who have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are getting infected. Although they may not have severe symptoms, they are at risk of being a carrier.
