According to data from the Union health ministry, India reported 4,435 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, the highest daily increase in 163 days (five months and 13 days), while the number of active cases rose to 23,091.
On September 25 of last year, there were 4,777 cases altogether.
The new cases brought India’s COVID-19 total to 4.47 billion (4,47,33,719). The figures updated at 8 am showed that 15 deaths brought the death toll up to 5,30,916.
One death each was reported from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Rajasthan. Four deaths were reported from Maharashtra, and four deaths were reconciled by Kerala.

The number of active cases has increased to 23,091, accounting about 0.5% of all infections. The website of the health ministry reports that the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.76%.
Both the daily and weekly positive rates were recorded at 3.38 and 2.79 percent, respectively.
4,41,79,712 people have recovered from the illness, while the case fatality rate is now 1.19 percent.
On the ministry’s website, it is stated that the nationwide vaccination drive has so far administered 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
