Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a very big and historic decision of free vaccination of all citizens of the country with a population of 135 crores, which has also been implemented across the country on the occasion of Yoga Day.
Under the new vaccination policy, the Center will procure 75 per cent of the vaccines from manufacturers, leaving the remaining 25 per cent to private players. The Center will also make available vaccines for all age groups to all states based on their requirement. Earlier, the center used to supply free vaccines only to people aged 45 years and above. State governments were responsible for procuring 50 per cent of the vaccines for citizens between the ages of 18 and 45.
In a statement, the government said that during the month of May, more than 7.9 crore vaccines were available for the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination exercise. In June, these were increased to 11.78 crores. These include free supply of vaccines from the Center to the states and union territories. Advance visibility of the vaccine doses available in the month of June 2021 was provided to the states by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the statement said. This advance information enabled the states to prepare vaccine delivery plans in an effective manner, district-wise and COVID Vaccination Center (CVC) wise.
Madhya Pradesh has also set a record of vaccination. According to government data, 13,71,171 people had been vaccinated in the state till 6 pm. The government had set a target of vaccination of one million people, but so far three lakh more people have been vaccinated.
