The first case of Zika virus has been reported in Karnataka. A five-year-old girl has been found infected with Zika virus in the state. Quoting Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar, the news agency PTI gave this information. The minister said that there is no need to worry, as the government is taking all necessary measures. He told that soon the guidelines will also be issued in this regard.
In response to a question asked on the Zika virus case in Raichur, K Sudhakar said, ‘We have received a report from Pune’s laboratory about a confirmed case of Zika virus. After taking action on it on 5th December, the report was given on 8th December. Three samples were sent for testing, out of which two were negative and one was positive. We are taking full vigilance.’
Talking to reporters, he said that a few months ago, cases of Zika virus were found in Kerala, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The state health minister said, ‘This is the first confirmed case in Karnataka. This has come to the fore when the serum was tested for dengue and chikungunya. Usually 10 percent of such samples are sent to Pune for testing, out of which it has turned positive.
Zika virus disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which is also known to transmit infections such as dengue and chikungunya. This virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947. The Health Minister said that so far no new case of Zika virus has been reported in the state and there is no need to worry, the government is carefully monitoring the situation.

The initial symptoms of Zika virus are very mild. However, in case of seriousness, you may have to be admitted to the hospital as well. The most common symptoms of Zika include fever, joint pain, muscle aches, headache, and vomiting.
