Punjab News: – In a significant move to support the children of HIV-infected parents and those living with the virus, the Punjab government has announced a monthly financial aid of Rs 1,500 per child. This was disclosed by State Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh during the inaugural meeting of the State Council on AIDS held on Wednesday.
Dr. Singh further shared that the council has proposed free transport services for HIV-positive patients, ensuring they can travel from their homes to the nearest Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) centres once a month. This initiative aims to ease the burden on patients, ensuring they have regular access to necessary treatment without the added worry of transportation costs.

To further support those living with HIV, a task force will be established to design and implement tailored programs aimed at enhancing employability. These programs are intended to help individuals lead a dignified life by improving their job prospects and providing them with the necessary skills and training.

Additionally, the council has taken steps to simplify the process of enrolling HIV-positive individuals in welfare schemes. It was agreed that documents verified by medical officers at the ART centres will be accepted for this purpose, making it easier for patients to access the benefits they are entitled to.
