Sadhguru Tips: When it comes to health, Sadhguru stresses the importance of mindful eating. In a world moving towards convenience foods and processed items, some everyday foods may seem harmless but can impact your health and energy levels. Here are three foods Sadhguru warns about, explaining how they can hinder digestion, reduce vitality, and disrupt mental clarity.
1. Tuberous Vegetables – Not Ideal for Brain Power
Sadhguru advises caution with tuberous vegetables like potatoes. While they’re filling, they generate gases below the navel, which can interfere with prana (vital energy) flow, especially for those who meditate or need high concentration levels. According to Sadhguru, “the dynamism levels in your system” reduce with these foods, impacting focus and mental clarity. This makes it especially critical for students or anyone with high mental tasks to limit such foods.
2. Processed and Packaged Foods – An Energy Drain
Today’s modern diets often include foods stored for long periods and packed in plastic or cans. Sadhguru points out that fresh food is seen as old-fashioned, replaced by pre-packaged items full of preservatives and chemicals. Consuming these processed foods not only burdens the body but also slows down digestion, which initially drains energy. Sadhguru explains that freshly prepared food should ideally be consumed within 1.5 to 4 hours, as food loses its essential enzymes, making it harder for the body to digest and absorb nutrients.
Microwaving and eating food stored for extended periods, even in the refrigerator, are discouraged in yogic practices. These habits increase “vayu” (gas) in the body, leading to issues in respiratory health, sense perception, and even the thinking process over time.
3.Avoid Eating Chemically Modified Food
Though fruits are considered highly beneficial, Sadhguru highlights that not all fruits are created equal. Modern farm-grown fruits, cultivated for market appeal rather than nutritional value, often lack the vitality once naturally present. He describes today’s fruits as “bigger, rounder, better looking, but like botox,” indicating they may lack essential nutrients due to heavy use of chemicals and fertilizers.
Sadhguru recommends sourcing seasonal fruits from your local area if possible. Local fruits often grow in sync with seasonal needs, offering the body the ideal nutrients for that specific time of year. However, finding truly organic fruits, untouched by chemicals, can be challenging, with even organic foods often exposed to certain chemicals.
Final Thoughts on Healthier Eating
For optimal health, Sadhguru advises sticking to fresh, locally sourced foods and minimizing processed items and tuberous vegetables if mental clarity and digestive vitality are priorities. Understanding what’s on our plate and choosing foods that promote natural energy can lead to improved physical and mental well-being.
