Following the claims of US agencies regarding Chinese lab leak and vociferous and furious denials from Beijing , the WHO has urged all countries to reveal on what they know about the origins of Covid-19. This development comes after FBI director Christopher Wray stated that FBI had assessed the source of Covid-19 Pandemic which indicated that it was “most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan”.

In the meantime, China is furious and has angrily denied the FBI claims, calling it a smear campaign against Beijing.
World Health Organization’s Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had this to say,
“If any country has information about the origins of the pandemic, it’s essential for that information to be shared with WHO and the international scientific community,”
He further told reporters,
“Not so as to apportion blame but to advance our understanding of how this pandemic started so we can prevent, prepare for and respond to future epidemics and pandemics.
“WHO has not abandoned any plans to identify the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic,”.

UN’s Health Agency sets up Scientific Advisory Group
To look into the origins of the pandemic, in 2021 the UN’s health agency had set up the Scientific Advisory Group for the origins of the Pandemic,
Terdos revealed that he had written and spoken to top Chinese leaders on multiple occasions,
“WHO continues to call for China to be transparent in sharing data and to conduct the necessary investigations and share the results,”
“Until then, all hypotheses on the origins of the virus remain on the table.”
He also voiced his concerns that politicization of the origins research was making scientific work harder – and the world less safe as a result
Meanwhile, Marie Van Kerkove, the WHO’s Covid-19 technical lead who is also an infectious disease epidemiologist had stated that WHO had reached out to the mission in Geneva for more information. However, it does not have any access to any of the data on which the US reports were based.
She added,
“It remains vital that that information is shared”, to help move the scientific studies forward,
