With 46.61 lakh ABHA health IDs, Odisha tops the list

Odisha: Odisha may not have accepted the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Jojana (AB-PMJAY), but the state has topped in generating Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA). In 2018, the Centre had launched the Ayushman Bharat scheme with three components – AB-PMJAY, Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs) and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

Odisha launched its own health assurance scheme Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY)

While the Odisha government is implementing the AB-HWCs and ABDM components, it has launched its own health assurance scheme Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) instead of PMJAY. The ABDM initiative aims at strengthening the accessibility and equity of health services, including continuum of care with citizens as the owner of data in a holistic healthcare programme approach leveraging IT and associated technologies.

As part of the plan, states are responsible for developing health profiles of individuals who will receive an ABHA id that will allow them access to their medical records whenever and wherever they are in the nation.

Since October 12, Odisha has generated 43.61 lakh ABHA IDs in response to the Center’s aim of 21.9 lakh ids developed for non-communicable illnesses, reproductive and child health, e-Sanjeevani, and Nikshya.

Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, with six lakh and four lakh IDs, respectively, are the next two states after the state. All ten of the Ministry of Health’s top districts are from the state. Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, Balasore, Puri and Keonjhar were among the top ten districts.

Odisha won first place for producing the most ABHA IDs

In this year’s drive for universal health coverage, Odisha won first place for producing the most ABHA IDs, according to department of health and family welfare secretary Shalini Pandit.

On the occasion of Universal Health Coverage Day celebrations in Varanasi on Friday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya presented the award to NHM mission director Dr. Brundha D and Public Health director Dr. Niranjan Mishra.

According to Pandit, the ABHA is a special health ID that allows individuals to access medical records and provides a complete digital history of their health for a better understanding of their condition by treating physicians and other healthcare professionals for accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment across the nation.
