World No Tobacco Day 2023: One of the main reasons for preventable death and illness worldwide is tobacco usage. Nearly every organ in the body can be harmed by it, and it also raises the chance of many cancers, cardiovascular disorders, respiratory illnesses, and other medical conditions. Although it can significantly enhance your health and quality of life, giving up cigarettes can be quite difficult. Nicotine is a chemical that is naturally present in tobacco, and it is known to cause addiction in many tobacco users. This may make it challenging to stop smoking on your own.
There are some proven strategies that can help to quit tobacco
- Using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT): By giving you a modest amount of nicotine without the dangerous chemicals in cigarette smoke, NRT can help you control cravings and withdrawal symptoms. NRT is available as patches, gum, lozenges, inhalers, and nasal sprays, among other forms. NRT is available over the counter or with a prescription from your doctor.
- Using counseling: Counselling can assist you in developing a plan to stop smoking as well as in managing stress, cravings to smoke, and other problems that may arise. You can speak with a counsellor one-on-one or in a group setting, or call a quitline for free, private Counciling.
- Using yoga: Yoga is a holistic discipline that incorporates breathing exercises, physical postures, meditation, and relaxation methods. Yoga can aid in quitting smoking by increasing blood flow, boosting the neurological system, regenerating brain cells, and soothing the mind. Yoga can also increase your oxygen intake and lung function, help you manage your weight, and lessen the anxiety and depression that come with quitting smoking. Additionally, regular yoga practise can lessen your cravings for tobacco.
