The association strongly condemned in a tweet “the dastardly act of violence resulting in the death of Sh. Letminthang Haokip, Tax Assistant in Imphal”.
“No cause or ideology can justify the killing of an innocent public servant on duty. Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult hour,” it said.
A picture of Haokip was also released, along with the statement that he had been “dragged from his official quarters in Imphal by Meitei miscreants and beaten to death.”
The association is the Income-tax department’s national organisation for India.
Bloody ethnic rioting has been occurring in several areas of the state over the past 48 hours, and according to a spokesperson for the defence, 13,000 people have been saved and taken to safe shelters.
