Monsoon 2022 IMD Prediction: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted early onset of southwest monsoon on Thursday. The IMD said that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal around 15 May 2022.
The Meteorological Department said that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to receive the first seasonal rains on May 15. IMD’s prediction of monsoon is a relief as many parts of India are battling scorching heat.
Generally, the normal onset date of monsoon in Kerala is 1st June. During the next 5 days, widespread light/moderate rain will occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Heavy rain is expected in this region till May 14-16. Wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph has also been predicted in South Andaman Sea on May 15 and 16.
IMD predicted rain in these areas
Light/moderate rainfall is very likely to occur over Northeast regions in the next five days.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in Assam and Meghalaya from 12-16 May.
Arunachal Pradesh may receive heavy rains on 12th May and heavy to very heavy rain at different places during 13-16th May.
Light rain has been predicted widely over Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep in the next five days.
Telangana, North Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to receive scattered rains in the next five days.
Light to moderate rain may occur over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on 12th and 14th May.
