India is moving towards achieving 100% results on issues that require building a national consensus, home minister Amit Shah said on Saturday at the 30th northern zonal council meeting in Jaipur.
In a statement released by the home ministry, he was quoted as stating, “All stakeholders should come together to form a strong cooperative framework for development. For this goal, the regional councils were founded.”
The statement continued, “He said that even though the (zonal) council’s role is advisory, he is pleased that in his three years of experience, more than 75% of the issues in the (zonal) council have been resolved by consensus… we are moving toward achieving 100% results on issues requiring the building of national consensus.
“These include forensic science lab and forensic science university, amendment in CrPC (criminal procedure code) and IPC (Indian Penal Code), banking service in every village of the country within a radius of five kilometres, mobile network in every village, providing rural population with all services of the state and central governments through a common service centre, and allowing all beneficiary schemes of the state and central governments to reach directly into the accounts,”
The chief ministers of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh, the lieutenant governors of Delhi and Ladakh, the Chandigarh administrator, the Union home secretary, as well as representatives from the InterState Council Secretariat and central ministries, all attended the meeting on Saturday.
In all, 47 topics were covered during the meeting. Four of these were chosen as being crucial issues at the national level. These include enhancing banking services in remote regions, keeping an eye on rape and sexual assault cases involving women and children, establishing fast-track tribunals for such instances, and putting direct benefit transfer into place.
The statement read, “Of the 47 topics that were discussed, 35 items have been resolved. It demonstrates the Modi administration’s resolve and dedication to overall growth of India in the cooperative federalist ethos.
The formation of a group with representatives from all relevant agencies and state governments, chaired by the home secretary, was also decided upon during the meeting in order to prepare a strategy to combat the growing threat of cybercrime.
Given the significant influence that cybercrimes have on national security, public order, and economic activity, the states and union territories should run awareness campaigns on cyber alertness, the ministry quoted the home minister as saying.
