Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojana: The Rajasthan government, led by Ashok Gehlot, will launch the Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojana on Thursday, ahead of the Assembly elections.
The Rajasthan government introduced the free mobile phone scheme in its budget this year. The government will offer mobile phones with free data to women across the state under this programme.
The state government would provide smartphones to 1 crore 40 lakh women. However, mobile phones will be in the hands of 40 lakh women in the first phase.
Special distribution camps for smartphones
Special camps have been set up in 28 locations throughout Jaipur to distribute smartphones. This initiative will only benefit the female heads of the Chiranjeevi families.
Approximately 140,000 smartphones would be handed to women in the Jodhpur district under this scheme. During these camps, a particular cash would be transmitted to the bank account of the telecoms provider from whom the female beneficiary purchases the mobile device, as previously stated by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
The government would transfer the money to the beneficiary’s e-wallet on the spot for mobile transactions, according to orders issued by the Department of Information Technology and Communication (DolT). The government will send information to the beneficiaries’ mobile phones through SMS.
What if amount exceed?
The government will provide Rs 6125 for the purchase of a mobile device and an extra Rs 675 for the purchase of a data plan together with a SIM card under this initiative. If a woman chooses a phone for Rs 5999, she will keep the remaining Rs 126 in her e-wallet, which she can spend as she sees fit.
