InterGlobe: On Thursday, InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation announced their plans to begin operating an all-electric air taxi service throughout India in 2026.
According to a release, the InterGlobe-Archer flight is scheduled to take off from Connaught Place in the nation’s capital and reach Gurugram in Haryana in around 7 minutes. By road, the 27-kilometer journey will take between 60 and 90 minutes.
InterGlobe to launch flying taxis in India
In order to collaborate on the introduction and operation of an all-electric air taxi service in India, both firms have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), pending the necessary regulatory certifications and licences.
In 2026, the two businesses intend to introduce an all-electric air taxi service across the nation.
The Press release said, “In addition to urban air taxi services, the parties plan to pursue a variety of other use cases for the electric aircraft in India, including cargo, logistics, medical and emergency services, as well as private company and charter services.”
The partnership, contingent on regulatory approvals, aims to address the escalating need for efficient transport solutions in India, a country grappling with severe ground travel congestion and urban pollution. Archer Aviation, endorsed by industry giants like Boeing and United Airlines, specialises in electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, considered the future of urban air mobility.
What will the air taxi be like?
With the capacity to transport four passengers and a pilot for up to 100 miles, the ‘Midnight’ e-aircraft is expected to start operations in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. The electric air taxi service will be “cost-competitive” with on-road services, according to the firms. An air taxi ride in Delhi is anticipated to take seven minutes, compared to a car ride that takes sixty to ninety minutes.
