IPL 2020: Building platform is important in every game, says DC captain Shreyas Iyer

Delhi Capital surged on top of the points table after winning their third game against Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs in this year’s IPL.

While batting Delhi Capitals scored 228 runs. Captain Shreyas Iyer was the leading run-scorer for Delhi as he scored 88 runs in just 38 balls which included 6 sixes and 7 boundaries. Prithvi Shaw also contributed with his 66 runs.

“We really have a good platform and we have to be insatiable with our work ethics and keep getting better game after game from here on,” said Shreyas in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“It is really difficult to defend here. It has been such an amazing tournament, especially in Sharjah. It is always a thrill to play at this ground, the last time I played here was in the under-19s. Winning the match was the icing on the cake.”

“It was really necessary for me to take time at the start which I did in the earlier games as well. It was the right time for me to take on the bowlers and then rotate the strike as well after that. Luckily it worked out for me,” he said.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ chase never looked simple, at a point they were reduced to 122-6 but then Rahul Tripathi and Eoin Morgan did a brilliant job by putting up a partnership of 78 runs in just 30 balls.

The duo brought KKR back into the game in the high-scoring game but Delhi Capital bowlers didn’t leave the game so easily.

“We were confident we had two good overs left, but anything could happen, it is a funny game is T20s and especially here in Sharjah,” Iyer added.

KKR faced their third defeat of the season and now they slipped to number 6 in the points table.
