67-Year-old Shinzo Abe is associated with the Liberal Democratic Party. Abe was elected to the post of Prime Minister of Japan for the first time in 2006. However, Abe resigned as prime minister within a year, battling a disease called ulcerative colitis. After this, Abe again contested for the post of Prime Minister in the year 2012 and after winning the election again took charge of the country. After this Shinzo Abe remained the Prime Minister of Japan for 2803 consecutive days (7 years and 6 months).
Before this, the record of being the Prime Minister for such a long time was in the name of Shinzo’s uncle “Isaku Saito”.
Shinzo was born in the city of Tokyo. Shinzo Abe’s family is originally from Yamaguchi Prefecture. Shinzo’s family was mainly active in Japanese politics. His mother Yoko Kishi is the daughter of former Prime Minister of Japan Nobusuke Kishi. Shinzo’s father, Shintaro Abe, served as Japan’s foreign minister from 1982 to 1986.
Shinzo Abe started working for Kobe Steel in April 1979 after completing his public policy studies from the US. After this in 1982, he left the company and worked in several government positions. Shinzo Abe married “Aki Abe” in the year 1987. However, Shinzo and Aki have no children. Shinzo’s father died in 1991, about 4 years after their marriage. After this, in the year 1993, Abe was elected as the representative of the first district of Yama Guchi Prefecture.
It is noteworthy that throughout his tenure, Shinzo Abe played an important role in reshaping Japan’s relations with India.
Shinzo Abe visited India in all his four terms as the Prime Minister of Japan. Abe was the Prime Minister of Japan who visited India most frequently. His first visit was in year 2007, the second in 2014, the third in 2015 and the fourth in 2017.
Shinzo Abe, who addressed the joint session of the Indian Parliament in the year 2007, put forward the concept of Indo-Pacific, which is in the form of QUAD today.
