Jeep Compass petrol to make a comeback in India with a new engine, All we know

Jeep Compass: Due to its failure to comply with BS6 Phase 2 emissions standards, Jeep a few weeks ago withdrew the petrol engine from the Compass lineup in India. The business is believed to be preparing to bring back a petrol engine for the Compass, most likely within the next two years, in order to remedy what was a case of poor product planning following a change in leadership at Jeep India.

Jeep Compass sales post discontinuation

Because it accounted for roughly half of all sales, the decision to end the petrol engine had an effect on Compass sales. Due to the unpredictability of diesel engines, especially in areas with rigorous 10-year regulations like Delhi-NCR, the SUV market in India is moving away from diesel and towards petrol. In Delhi-NCR, Compass’s petrol-powered models accounted for almost 80% of sales.

New engine details

Poor product planning was cited as the cause of the petrol engine’s lack of a fast replacement. For this reason, Jeep has given the go-ahead for the introduction of a new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine in India. However, it would take between 18 and 24 months for the engine to undergo calibration, validation, and homologation in order to meet Indian standards for emissions. The new engine is therefore not anticipated to be made available before 2025.

The new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, which debuted with the Jeep Renegade in 2018, has two power ratings: 129 bhp with a 6-speed manual transmission and 149 horsepower with a 6-speed DCT gearbox, both with front-wheel drive. Since the mid-lifecycle redesign in 2020, other international markets where the Compass is sold have already welcomed this more effective turbo-petrol engine, supporting the introduction of this engine in India.
