Jeep has recently released a new teaser that says “A Jeep SUV exclusively engineered for India”. The brand is in plans to host an event on 16 September in Pune. We have no clear idea about the Jeep’s plans. But the company is expected to launch more varints of Jeep Compass and Meridian. Simultaneously, the vehicle is expected to get a small mid life facelift.
Talking about the variants, after the implemenatation of BS6 Stage 2 norms, the petrol engine of the Jeep Compass was discontinued by the manufacturer, this led to significant increase in the starting price of automatic transmission. The brand offers the automatic transmission of the compass with the price tag of Rs. 29.84 lakh (ex-showroom) which is nearly 5 lakh more than to the Petrol DCT variant of the vehicle.
Taking a note of this, the Jeep is expected to launch new lower variant of the vehicle with automatic transmission. Presently, the Jeep offers compass in four trims which includes – Sport, Limited, and S. From these three, only the Limited and S are available with automatic trasmission. A noteworthy thing is that the company offers 4×4 capabilities in the automatic variant. The company is expected to introduce new variants with a 4×2 powertrain.
On the other hand, the Jeep is also expected to upgrade the Compass and Meridian with a mild facelift with an all new grille, bumpers and a set of new alloy wheels. The maufacturer is also expected to make changes to the interiors of the car with an all new upholstery.
Currently, the Jeep offers Compass and Meridian with a 2.0 litre turbo- diesel engine which generates the maximum power of 168 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The powertrain comes coupled with a six speed manual gearbox or a 9 speed torque converter automatic transmission.
