JK Tyre Drift Challenge details

25 high-performance vehicles will compete in the JK Tyre Drift Challenge, and some of India’s greatest drivers will be behind the wheel. The competition will be judged by a panel of international drifting specialists, including Tanakorn Lertyaovarit, Cristiani Nanami Lazaro, and Alistair Woodham.

What is drifting?

A driving method with the same name that has been utilised in other well-known motorsports for many years, such as rally and speedway racing, is the centre of the sport known as drifting. Using oversteer to cause the car to go sideways through curves is the key to car drifting. This must occur quickly, with the driver still in complete control of the vehicle.

Japan’s Keiichi Tsuchiya, a race car driver, is credited with starting drifting in the early 1980s. In his 20s, Mr. Tsuchiya began to practise drifting on winding roads high in the highlands close to his hometown. He claims that he was honing his ability to stay upright when driving through curves.

What did the company say?

Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsport, JK Tyre, said, “The introduction of the JK Tyre Drift Challenge marks a significant moment in Indian motorsport history. Drifting has been happening in India in silos; however, with this competition with the help of FMSCI, we will formalise norms of drifting in India and try to match it on par with global standards soon.”

“We have always been forerunners in the Indian motorsports arena, and with this competition, we continue to pursue our aim to develop the motorsport scene here with the introduction of diverse disciplines. This challenge will not only provide a platform for the country’s talented drivers to shine but also delight motorsport enthusiasts who are hungry for a new thrill,” he added.
