Basavaraj Bommai will be the new Chief Minister of Karnataka after BS Yediyurappa resigns. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his name on Tuesday after the legislative party meeting. Legislature party meeting was held in Bangalore. Earlier, State Revenue Minister R Ashok had said that in a day or two, or 48 hours, a decision would be taken on the name of the new Chief Minister.
After the resignation of the then Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, speculations are being made about many names in the race for the post of CM. Sources say that in this, Basavaraj Bommai’s name is leading among the Lingayat MLAs of BJP. Bommai is considered close to BS Yeddyurappa and belongs to the ‘Janata Parivar’. His father SR Bommai has also been the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Sources say that an agreement has been reached on the name of Basavaraj Bommai. It is being said that Yeddyurappa has suggested his name to the party high command. The Revenue Minister said that whatever decision the party high command takes, the state unit of BJP will follow it. R Ashok said that everyone is an aspirant, everyone wants to become CM. But there will be only one CM. So we will follow the decision of the party high command. He said that everyone will abide by the decisions.
Yediyurappa on Monday resigned as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot has accepted his resignation and asked him to continue as caretaker chief minister till the next chief minister is sworn in. After resigning from his post, Yediyurappa has assured that he will work to bring the party back to power in the upcoming elections before the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.
