Ishaan Kahtter and Ananya Panday starrer Khaali Peeli will be releasing today. The film is one of the very first films which will stream on OTT platform as well as release at a few drive-in theatres on Gurugram and Bengaluru.
Due to its release in drive-in theatres, the film was sent to Central Board of Film Certification and suffered a number of edits.
The CBFC have removed all the curse words as well as the mentions of virginity in the film. It has also taken out lustful gazes at nanya’s personality or even the phrase ‘merchandise’.
Some parts of film’s track Tehas Nehas also went under needle editing for its “sensous and explicit” portrayal.
Dialogues such as ‘Saale nalla hai tu. Fattu hai’, ‘Dus saal tak virgin raha; cling karke baitha tha’, ‘virgin bhramachari’ and ‘harami’ have been unnoticed. ‘Maa ki aankh’ was once changed with ‘bhains ki aankh’, ‘maa ki’ with ‘bhains ki’, ‘merchandise’ with ‘ladki’ and ‘r****i’ was once changed with ‘aunty’.
CBFC has also requested the makers to add a disclaimer at the beginning that no person associated with the film promotes objectification and exploitation of women. They have also been told to enlarge the font dimension in their tobacco caution.
Be its trailer or songs, the film has garnered criticism all along. The trailer of the film joined Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur starrer Sadak 2 to become one of the most disliked trailer while its Song Dunia Sharma Jayegi initially titled as Beyonce Sharma Jayegi was slammed for promoting racism.
Khaali Peeli will mark the directorial debut of Maqbool Khan. The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. It was earlier scheduled to release on June 12 earlier this year, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
