The hearing of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute case was held in the Supreme Court. Giving information to the Supreme Court, Attorney General KK Venugopal said that the Ministry of Jal Shakti is making efforts to resolve this dispute.
In the Supreme Court, the Central Government has accused the Punjab Government. The Center has said that the Punjab government is not cooperating in resolving the Sutlej-Yamuna link dispute.
Attorney General KK Venugopal said that a letter was sent from our side to the new Chief Minister of Punjab for the meeting in April but no response has come from his side. The Supreme Court asked the Punjab government to come forward and find a solution to the problem. The Supreme Court said that the Ministry of Jal Shakti, including the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Chief Minister of Haryana, should meet at the end of this month and reach a conclusion.
“Water is a natural resource and living beings must learn to share it — whether individuals or states. The matter cannot be looked at from the point of view of only one city or one state. It is natural wealth to be shared and how it is to be shared is a mechanism to be worked out,” the Bench said.
The Supreme Court said that the report of the meeting on the Sutlej-Yamuna link should also be filed in the Supreme Court. We give four weeks time, after which the report of the matter should be filed. asked to file its report in the matter. The Supreme Court said that we hope that the government will solve this dispute by mediation. The next hearing of the case will be on 19 January 2023.
